Former MPDA Chairman and three-time municipal councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar along with hundreds of supporters joined the BJP in Panaji on Tuesday.
Salkar’s entry into the BJP will now pose a major threat to Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida for the party ticket from Vasco constituency.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco BJP Mandal President Deepak Naik along with many other BJP MLAs and leaders were present during the induction ceremony in Panaji.
Speaking to reporters in Vasco, Salkar said it was a very emotional day for him to get back to the BJP party as he had worked for several years as a Karyakarta only to rise and hold major positions until he left the party a few years ago due to slight difference of opinion and misunderstanding.
“I may have left the party but I had a soft corner for the BJP all this time. There is a lot of excitement in the camp as many of my supporters have been affiliated to the BJP for many years and are going back into the party again.”
“Vasco has gone back by ten years and our only aim is to carry out major developments in Vasco with the help of BJP and bring it back on track. I appeal to all Vascokars to help me complete my dream of making Vasco a model city in terms of development with active public participation,” said Salkar.
Municipal Councillor Girish Borker told reporters that it was a Ghar Wapsi for many supporters of Salkar.
“We are joining the BJP after a gap of 4 years. We are now a stronger force with old and new Karyakartas who will be joining the BJP with our leader, Salkar,” said Borker.
