VASCO
Members of Sancoale comunidade on Thursday demanded a police probe into the extortion angle in the recent attack on RTI activist Narayan Naik.
Addressing a news conference in Vasco, Communidade member Pratap Mardolkar alleged that the recent attack on Naik may have been linked to harassment and extortion.
Mardolkar said he had personally filed many complaints against Naik, adding that authorities have not acted in the matter.
Alleging there had been a tendency by some to link RTI with harassment and extortion, Mardolkar said this could soon become a trend among youth looking for easy source of income.
Mardolkar also said there had been attempts to take over huge comunidade land.
“Hence, we demand a thorough probe into the extortion angle in this attack," said Mardolkar.
CB investigation
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the case pertaining to the attack on RTI activist Narayan Naik was handed over to the Crime Branch for fast track police investigation.
"The case has already been transferred to Crime Branch and I have full faith that it is on the right track and will be investigated thoroughly,” Sawant told reporters in Vasco on Thursday.
“As of now, there is already an arrest in the case and if more people are involved, they will also be arrested.”
“As of now, two cases have been transferred to Crime Branch because if the case is either sensitive or because we want to fast track the investigation," said Sawant.
