Sancoale panchayat insists on Covid vaccine for locals

VASCO

Sancoale Panchayat has insisted on Covid vaccine for residents and has gone to the extent of warning that shops in the panchayat jurisdiction will not be allowed to open till shopkeepers show vaccination certificates.

The panchayat has also decided that people without a vaccination certificate would not be entertained in the panchayat office for any work.

The decision was announced by Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar in the presence of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and other panch members during a vaccination drive at Zuarinagar.

"This is a very densely populated area and many people have tested positive here. Hence, we felt that we must get maximum people vaccinated in the village,” Borkar told reporters.

“However, we did not seem to get a good response for the many vaccination camps we undertook because some people are misguided.”

“We have now decided that we will close shops if the shopkeepers concerned are not vaccinated and not allow the shops to open till they get vaccinated.”

“We have also decided that we will not entertain any person in the panchayat office with any request for NOC or any other work unless he/she is vaccinated. We want to ensure 100 per cent vaccination of the population and eliminating Covid from Sancoale village," said Borkar.

Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho told reporters said shopkeepers come in contact with many people in the area.

"One person can transmit Covid to a shopkeeper, who can then transmit the disease to many people. If shopkeepers don't get vaccinated, the panchayat will not renew their license and this is a good initiative by Sancoale panchayat.”

“People must attend camps and get themselves vaccinated. It is only when all people are vaccinated, that we will be well equipped to handle the third Covid wave," said Godinho.
