The Sancoale Panchayat led by Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar launched a record 24 development works worth around Rs 1 crore in different wards of the panchayat on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, former sarpanch Girish Pillai said the development works included widening of roads, construction of retaining walls, improvement of drainage and gutters, laying of pavers and other works.

Borkar then addressed a news conference and demanded the resignation of Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, after accusing her of failing to take up development works in the constituency and failing to resolve the issues of people opposing the linear projects despite being the MLA of the BJP ruling government.

"Saldanha has taken Cortalim constituency behind by eight years and many important projects like the beautification of Bandole lake, Kala Bhavan, rehabilitation of Zurinagar slums and Zuarinagar market complex has not been taken up despite several assurances and meetings with officials,” said Borkar.

“Even the Cortalim market complex is without a Sanad and the overbridge at Cansaulim has been pending for years," Borkar added.

"Saldanha is only running to various locations to participate in agitations while ignoring development in her own constituency. She should have studied the projects and resolved the matter at the government level as a ruling MLA. If no one is listening to her, she must resign and then join the agitation,” said Borkar.

"She has no capacity to target us and we have proved it by launching 24 development works in one day without her support. We will continue to have many more development projects. We will get around 100 more development works in the coming months," said Borkar.
