Sancoale panchayat has become the first panchayat in the State to launch a wet waste treatment plant which will dispose wet waste in a scientific manner while also generating electricity and producing manure as by-products.
The wet waste treatment plant was inaugurated by Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai in the presence of Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat, panch members, panchayat secretary and BDO Prasiddh Naik.
Speaking to media, BDO Prasiddh Naik said the plant, set up at a cost of Rs 1.7 crore, was the need of the hour considering the wet waste generated by the village.
“Sancoale will be the first panchayat in Goa to launch such a project where the plant will dispose 3 tonnes of wet waste per day. The hybrid technology plant will generate around 200 units of electricity and also produce nine tonnes of manure per month,” said Naik.
“While 25 units of electricity will be used to run this plant, the remaining units can be sold back to the government while the manure can be sold or given free to farmers.”
Sarpanch Girish Pillai said the plant was taken up with the help of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho.
“We have a major issue of garbage and this plant has helped us resolve the issue to a great level. The second issue is about maintenance of the plant and we have given the operation and maintenance of this plant to the same company which installed it so that there is more efficiency and maximum garbage can be disposed scientifically,” said Pillai.
