Claiming that the State government has provided job opportunities in private and government services, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said around 30,000 jobs will be created in various fields over the next five years.
He also said Goa is moving towards self-sufficiency and cited the example of vegetables grown in the State now being exported to other states.
Sawant was speaking after inaugurating the second Krishi Mahotsav in the State organised by the Directorate of Agriculture at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali.
“Thousands of jobs will be created through the Mopa Airport and Electronic City in Tuem. The process to launch industries is in its final stages and this willl create 30,000 jobs in the next five years,” said Sawant.
The CM emphasised on schemes of the fisheries department such as Matsya Sampada and Blue Revolution which will help make Goa self-sustainable. “We have launched many schemes for farmers and many are benefiting from them. We expect each farmer to earn at least Rs 5 lakh a year.”
“Besides, Rs 20 crore was disbursed to dairy farmers in the State. Piggery and goat farming are also flourishing in the State,” said Sawant.
The chief minister said the Goa Biodiversity Board is setting up a food processing unit in each taluka by next year.
“These units will purchase every agriculture product at source and after processing, it will yield a good market rate,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar said the government is working hard to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulties regarding government subsidy, as it is directly transferred in their accounts.
“The government has also helped farmers by providing financial help from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during the pandemic,” Kavlekar said.
Presentations on various schemes were made by officials of the agriculture department, directorate of animal husbandry and veterinary services and other departments.
Others present at the event included former minister Ramesh Tawadkar, former MLA Vasu Meng Gaonkar, Director of Fisheries Shamila Monteiro, Director of Agriculture Nevil Alphonso and other officials.
On the occasion, the CM felicitated a number of agriculturists from North Goa.
