MARGAO
Ahead of the monsoons, the government has accorded its administrative sanction for the shifting of the South Goa Administrator of Comunidade office from the crumbling building in the heart of the commercial capital to the South Goa Collectorate building.
The government, however, is yet to take a call on how to go about the issue of repair of the dilapidated building given that it is owned by the components of Comundidades from South Goa.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte told the media that the South Comunidade office will be shifted to the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex in the South Goa Collectorate before the onset of the monsoon season. “The government has accorded the administrative sanction for the shifting of the Comunidade office to the Collectorate. Along with the Comunidade office, the office of the freedom fighters housed in the Comunidade building will be shifted to the Collectorate,” Khaunte said.
He said the government has already told other government departments to vacate from the Administrator of Comunidade building. As far as the agriculture department is concerned, it is for the department to look out for new space or adjust itself in their existing space in the city. “We have resorted to space management in the District Collectorate and we have found space for the Comunidade and freedom fighters,” he said.
On the repairs of the over 50-year-old building, which has been craving for attention, the Revenue Minister said certain issues need to be resolved first. “Our next course will be to repair the Comunidade building. TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, components of the Comunidades and other stakeholders will sit and discuss issues concerning the building,” he stated.
