Bardez mamlatdar Krishna Gawas has lodged a complaint against unknown persons for allegedly illegally extracting sand from the Chapora River at Camurlim and stacking it along the riverbank without obtaining the mandatory permissions.
According to the complaint, the illegal extraction is suspected to have taken place before 2 pm on September 26, behind the Prabhu Temple at Camurlim.
The accused allegedly extracted sand from the river and deposited it along the riverbank. The sand, valued at approximately Rs 10,000, was allegedly removed without permission from the concerned authorities, amounting to theft of minor minerals.
Based on the mamlatdar's complaint lodged on September 29, police registered an offence under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 38 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1985.
The identity of those involved in the alleged illegal sand extraction is yet to be established.
