CURCHOREM
Curchorem Fire Station in-charge Shailesh Gawade told The Goan that the fire station attended to 10 emergency calls on Wednesday. “We were busy throughout the day attending to emergency calls as the pre-monsoon rains uprooted trees at many places,” said Gawade.
One tree uprooted at Curpe-Sanguem at about 11.15 am and blocked the road, while trees were also uprooted at the Collem Railway station, near a masjid and at Guddemol-Sanvordem. In another incident, a jackfruit tree collapsed near the market complex at Paroda, while a coconut tree uprooted and fell on Quepem-Margao road. Some trees also fell on electricity wires at Bombdemol in Valkini Sanguem, disrupting power supply in the area.
“All 10 emergency calls pertained to uprooting of trees and blocked roads, which we cleared by 7.30 pm,” informed Ravindranath Pednekar, sub-officer at the Curchorem fire station.
