The State government has given a huge boost to menstrual hygiene with the Labour and Employment Department installing sanitary pads dispensing machines at the factories of four big companies -- IFB, Goa Glass Fibre, Cipla Pharmaceuticals and Nestle.
At a press conference, Revenue and Labour Minister, Rohan Khaunte, said, “The Labour and Employment Department will spend on installing sanitary pads dispensing machines and also incinerators. In case of big companies, we expect the companies to take care of running expenses of these machines themselves. However, in case of schools and small companies, the Department will spend on installing the machines and incinerators and also their running expenses.”
Khaunte said, “By April 1, such machines will be installed at 20-25 locations on trial basis for 3 months. In 2 years, all industrial areas, hotels, shops and establishments will have 100% coverage.”
These machines have been installed under a scheme called ‘Stri Sakhi Scheme’.
“When we talk of Swacch Bharat, personal hygiene is also very important and menstrual hygiene has to be tackled with awareness. The Department has launched Stri Sakhi Scheme for the objective of promoting menstrual hygiene in the State,” Khaunte continued.
