MARGAO
Call it panic buying or simply increased awareness on the dreaded coronavirus, sanitizers and face masks have simply disappeared from most of the city-based pharmacies and medical stores.
In fact, sanitizers were being sold like hot cakes in most of the medical stores on Friday, with many a pharmacy reporting that sanitizers have run out of stock. Similar was the situation on the face masks, with some of the pharmacies doing brisk sale of the masks.
Many a citizen who visited the pharmacies on Friday with the hope of laying their hands on sanitizers, if not the face masks, returned home disappointed with the sanitizers running out of stock. Sources said the branded sanitizers have been in shortage since the last couple of days, while only a few pieces of lesser known brands were available for sale in some of the pharmacies.
As far as face masks, only the disposable masks were available for sale, while reports indicated that the face masks were available at a premium at some of the outlets.
Pharmacies had no idea whether they would receive fresh stocks of the sanitizers in a day or two, only saying the demand for sanitizers as well as face marks have gone up following the outbreak of coronavirus.
