Santa Cruz sarpanch decides to resign

OLD GOA

Santa Cruz sarpanch Namdev Naik has decided to resign from the post over the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) fiasco as he said that he has no support from the villagers over the issue.
“On one hand, there are directives from the High Court to set up MRF in the village. But, on the other hand I have absolutely no support from the villagers,” Naik informed The Goan.
The decision comes against the backdrop of the Santa Cruz gram sabha unanimously opposing the setting up of MRF in Alto-Santa Cruz.
“I also did not get any support from authorities concerned like the District Collector, North Goa SP and the Old Goa PI when the panchayat sought police protection for setting up of MRF,” Naik further stated.
“I am under tremendous pressure over the issue and with the locals also not extending support to me at the gram sabha, I have now finally decided to call it quits and I will submit my resignation on Monday,” Naik said.
