In his order, outgoing Panchayat Director Gurudas Pilarnekar observed that the report of the Vigilance department was very clear that the sarpanch being the appointing authority should have cancelled the appointment of Puja Mane as per the findings of the Vigilance department.
“The Sarpanch was given reasonable opportunity to act in accordance with the directions given by this authority. The contentions raised by the lawyer representing the sarpanch cannot be accepted as the same are contrary to the subject matter involved here in i.e following directions given by the authorities pursuance to the findings of the Vigilance department,” Pilarnekar observed.
When The Goan contacted the Aquem Baixio Sarpanch for her comments on the issue, she said her office is yet to receive the order passed by the Director of Panchayats. “Neither me nor my office has received any such order. I will comment on the issue only after receiving the order,” she said.
The Vigilance had initiated an inquiry following a complaint from one Maria Blanch De Silva, who claimed Mane was appointed illegally.
