Collection of house tax arrears, collection of garbage, cleaning of drains, stray dogs and cattle menace were discussed at the gram sabha of Reis Magos Panchayat held on Sunday.
The Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar said that the arrears of house tax , professional tax, sign board tax and garbage tax to the tune of Rs.1,52,84,842 due to panchayat is pending due to shortage of staff . There are three staff in the office of panchayat who are doing the duties of BLO as directed by Mamlatdar, Bardez. Hence panchayat cannot utilize these staff for the administrative work such as collection of house tax arrears, etc. The panchayat has written a letter to the Mamlatdar that it will not relieve the aforesaid 3 staff for BLO duties.
The villagers mentioned that the garbage strewn by the roadside is seen everywhere due to which there has been rise of the stray dogs and cattle in Reis Magos.
The sarpanch mentioned that the contractor is collecting garbage on door to door basis everyday .The garbage is thrown by the side of the roads at night. Hence panchayat has decided to place garbage bins in every ward and install CCTV cameras in every ward. Those who are found throwing garbage by the roadside will be fined Rs 5000. Panchayat will also send letters to vegetable vendors, restaurant owners and chicken sellers requesting them not to throw their waste by the roadside.
The issue of cleaning of drainages also came up for discussion. The sarpanch mentioned that the panchayat has appointed a contractor for the cleaning of all drains in the panchayat area and an amount of Rs 18,000 will be paid to him for the cleaning of drains in each ward. It is the responsibility of each and every panch member to ensure that the drains in their ward has been cleaned to their satisfaction.
