Administrator continues to run p’yat affairs as post remains vacant
MARGAO
It would be two months on July 29 since Rumdamol village sarpanch Mubeena Fanibandh had quit office by tendering her resignation to the office of Panchayat Director.
As per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, the Panchayat Director is required to fill up the vacant post of sarpanch within 60 days. However, Rumdamol panchayat members are yet to receive a notice of the meeting from the office of the Panchayat Director to fill up the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch till date, even though the 60-month period ends on Tuesday.
That’s not all. The affairs of the Rumdamol panchayat is presided over by the government-appointed Administrator since both the sarpanch and deputy had quit office.
Questions are being raised in panchayat circles over the delay by the Panchayat Director to convene a meeting of the Rumdamol panchayat till date.
Panchayat member Saimulla Fanibandh has expressed his shock and surprise that the members have still not received any notice from the Panchayat Director convening a meeting to hold election for the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch.
“It would be two months on Tuesday since Sarpanch Mubeena had quit office. Till date, the Panchayat Director has not convened the meeting to hold the vacant post. Since the two-month period ends on Tuesday, the panchayat should have convened a meeting last week,” he said.
Panchayat Director Siddi Halarnkar was not available for comments on the matter, even as officials of the Salcete Block Development Office pointed out that the matter falls in the domain of the Panchayat Director.
