Seeks action against land conversion
MARGAO
Gram sabha members of the Nuvem village panchayat on Sunday expressed their concern over housing projects and the influx of migrants in the village when the village carrying capacity has reached a point of saturation.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Freda D’Sa saw members raising a host of issues, including garbage dumping, migrant influx, etc.
Gram sabha member Pausilipo Dourado raised the question of alleged conversion of non-development slop to settlement under section 17(2) of the Town and Country Planning Board. Saying that housing projects will come up on the converted land, Dourado mentioned that the carrying capacity of the village has already been exhausted and locals of Nuvem and their children will have no place to build houses in the future. He tabled a resolution asking the panchayat not to give any permission on the land or any other mega housing project in the village.
Amancio Fernandes moved a resolution to increase the support price of all produce by the farmers in Nuvem village, especially Alsando. The Sarpanch and other gram sabha members appreciated, and also suggested that local produce can be sold at the new Nuvem Bhagyagdar.
Jose Roque Andrade raised the issue of PWD not having proper plan of pipeline laid in Nuvem village. After much discussion, the members resolved that panchayat should obtain plans/ drawing of all the pipelines laid in Nuvem village, such as water pipelines, electric cable lines and telephone line, from respective departments and maintain in panchayat for ready reference.
Carmelito Andrade and Zarina D’Cunha raised an issue with vendors selling fruits and plants next to the road on bypass/ service roads, which is leading to road safety hazard. Zarina D’Cunha reminded the panchayat that August 8 is the last day to file about all illegal structures around highways.
The sarpanch replied saying that notices have been issued to the parties concerned.
