Sarpanch of Loutolim Xavier Fernandes has tendered his resignation on Monday on the eve of the no-confidence motion that is expected to come up against him on Tuesday.
Sources in the BDO pointed out that the meeting called to discuss the motion will take place as per schedule.
In his resignation letter, Xavier claimed that a group of villagers had formed a panel not aligned to any political party and gone to the voters, who were pleased to elect six out of nine members to the panchayat. He, however, claimed that two of the members of the panel have now switched sides.
In the no-confidence motion, the signatories Filipinha Fernandes, Tony Vaz, Cecilia Vaz, Alfred Fernandes, Maria Franky Monteiro and Joana Fernandes have alleged that the sarpanch does not take the members into confidence on important decisions.
They further stated that the sarpanch acts arbitrarily against the interest of the panchayat.
