The issues regarding scrap yard, garbage, Sateri Lake, spring water, new library building etc. figured in the gramsabha of Penha de Franca held on Sunday at Porvorim in the multi-purpose  hall of Fire station.

Sunil Morajkar sought to know what action Panchayat has taken against scrapyard located in75/31 at Malim in village panchayat of Penha de Franca. Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar mentioned that the matter is subjudice and hence  panchayat cannot take any action against the owner of the scrapyard .In fact the panchayat has given no objection to the said owner for sale of cartons and ‘raddi paper’ and not scrapyard .They have referred this matter to their legal advisor and as soon as panchayat receives reply from him  panchayat will take action.

Augi De Mello mentioned that that Panchayat has kept garbage bins in Britona but the people are throwing the garage by the side of garbage bins  on account of which the area bears a dirty look. The sarpanch assured to look into the matter and take necessary action.

Ganpat Sidhaye stated that Biodiversity Management committee of Penha de Franca has been adjudged as best committee of Goa and has been awarded the prize money of Rs.50,000/-. He said Panchayat should demand that Sateri Lake be declared as heritage site. 

Agnel Pereira sought to know the fate of new Library building .Sarpanch Chodankar said that the Panchayat is pursuing this matter vigorously .The file is pending with Directorate of Panchayat for financial approval.As soon as the approval is received panchayat will start the construction of the new building of Library after taking approval from concerned government departments.

Earlier Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar welcomed the gathering . Panchayat Secretary Suresh Phadte read out the minutes of last gramsabha. Dy Sarpanch Deepali Vernekar proposed vote of thanks. Prashant Naik was present as observer.
