The gram sabha of the village panchayat of Sarzora on Sunday has resolved to oppose any move to divert the existing NH-66 passing along Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim through Sarzora.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Rhyea Fernandes, members pointed out that the highway, if diverted at Dandeavaddo, through Sarzora will destroy the rich bio-diversity of the village.

The sarpanch later told the media that gram sabha members have opposed any move to shift the NH66 at Dandeavaddo-Chinchinim through Sarzora. She said the gram sabha members have lodged their objection to the shifting of the bypass through Sarzora fearing that it will adversely affected the village bio-diversity and cause traffic problems.

Gram sabha members also raised the issue of access to the picturesque Sarzora lake. They demanded to know whether any action has been taken by the Water Resources Department to the plea made by the panchayat to open the gates of the lake for the villagers during certain hours of the day.

The sarpanch explained to the members that the panchayat had written to the WRD officials, adding that the office has replied back saying the correspondence has been forwarded to the higher up officials for action.
