3 Salcete villages push for tenant verification

MARGAO
The issue over tenant verification dominated the gram sabha meetings of the village panchayat of Camurlim, Sarzora and Loutolim, with members demanding checking the antecedents of the migrants staying in the villages.

At the Camurlim meeting chaired by Sarpanch Elvis Dias, gram sabha members demanded to know from the Chair whether the panchayat has obtained the details of the tenants verified by the Police department. They demanded to know what action the panchayat has taken as per the resolution adopted by the gram sabha demanding tenant verification of all migrants staying in the village.

After much discussion, the gram sabha members resolved to demand that the panchayat conduct a tenant verification drive in the village on priority.

The issue figured in the neighbouring village of Loutolim where gram sabha members demanded the verification of tenants staying in the village. The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Rylon Fernandes saw members demanding verification of all tenants staying in the village.

The issued had echoed at the Sarzora gram sabha meeting chaired by Rhyea Fernandes when members demanded that the panchayat conduct tenant verification in view of the rising crimes involving migrants.

The sarpanch explained to the members that the panchayat members had raised awareness amongst the people to ensure verification of the tenants staying in the village.
