MARGAO: Sarzora village witnessed an uproar on Saturday after the local residents caught red handed a pick up van driver while disposing of animal carcass along the road side near a stream.
Villagers pointed out that some unknown people have been dumping animal waste on the Sarzora to San Jose de areal internal bypass road creating foul odour in that area.
As the internal road became a garbage dumping ground over the last few days, raising an unbearable stink in the locality, the locals decided to patrol the road during night time to catch these people.
Apparently sensing the operation launched by the villagers, the miscreants changed their modus operandi as they started dumping the animal waste during day time.
When locals got to know about it, they seized a vehicle which was dumping the waste and handed it over to Cuncolim police. They also made the driver to load the waste dumped in the area before he was detained by the police. Sarzora panchayat has decided to impose a fine on those who are dumping waste.
During inquiry, the driver claimed that he had brought the animal waste from Mandopa-Navelim.
