Landowners in Sattari taluka have threatened a protest inPanaji to push the State government to grant them land ownership rights.
This was decided at a meeting in the Velus temple inValpoi on Sunday, which was attended by representatives from all panchayatareas in Sattari taluka
During the meeting, landowners reiterated that they havebeen denied land ownership rights, thereby depriving them of several schemesand benefits from the government. Rajesh Gavkar, Ranjit Rane, DashrathMandrekar and Ganpat Gavkar were among those who addressed the meeting.
Unhappy that successive governments have failed toresolve their issue, the landowners have stepped up their campaign to mobilisepublic support.
Meetings are being convened in different parts of Sattaritaluka
The landowners also pledged their support to those whoare opposing the IIT at Guleli. They claimed that the government has beenforcibly setting up the project against the wishes of locals and such pressuretactics could be used in other parts of the State.
