Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured to reallocate shacks on Calangute and Candolim beaches and also agreed to revert the total number of shacks to eight on Ozran beach.
These assurances come in response to the issues raised by aggrieved shack operators who met with the Chief Minister on Wednesday regarding the abrupt reduction of shacks from eight to three on Ozran beach and the changing of wards for some shacks on Calangute and Candolim beaches.
This is the second time Chief Minister Sawant addressed their concerns, with the first related to the shack policy and coordination issues between the tourism department and the shack operators.
President of Shack Owners Welfare Society Cruz Cardozo said the CM heard their grievances and assured to resolve them.
"He has assured to reallocate shacks on Calangute and Candolim beaches, and revert the total shacks on Ozran to eight," he told The Goan, emerging from the meeting, adding that their primary demand to notify the shacks allocation will be done after resolving these issues and clearance from the GCZMA.
The meeting also had the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
The Society has confirmed that the number of shacks on Calangute and Candolim remains the same at 196 (128 on Calangute beach alone), as the problem was on the change in wards. The delay in notification over allotment has also caused a delayed start to the business for the shack operators.
