Says most work on Regional Plan complete and will be ready by December

North Goa BJP spokesman, Anand Halarnkar on Friday said BJP had the inclination to shift casinos out of River Mandovi but were held back due to objections from certain quarters.

He also said most of the work on the Regional Plan was complete and it will be ready by December.

“BJP desires to shift casinos out of the River Mandovi. The BJP-led government had also made attempts to push the casinos out of the Mandovi River but every time we did so there were some objections and the issue got stuck,” Halarnkar said refusing to reveal who were opposing the move.

The BJP spokesman tied himself in knots while responding to questions from journalists while addressing a news conference ostensibly to condemn the Congress chargesheet against the BJP-led government in its North Goa office in Mapusa.

Speaking further, he said the government was confronted with various concerns on the issue of shifting of the casinos from its present location.

“The first question is where can we shift the casinos? Secondly, there are some who claim that many locals are employed in the casinos. The locals involved in transport business also benefit from transporting clients to the casinos. A lot of people depend on the casinos,” Halarnkar said.

On the sixth casino, he said the chief minister has already clarified on the issue and he did not want to speak further on it.

The BJP spokesman also said most of the work on the Regional Plan was accomplished by the government and it could be finalized by December this year.

“Soon after our government came to power we solicited public opinion on the Regional Plan and later sent it for necessary correction and changes. Now, almost all the work on the Regional Plan has been completed and we expect the Regional Plan to be finalized by December,” he said.

On the Medium of Instruction issue, Halarnkar said the chief minister has already clarified on the issue and an appropriate decision has been taken.

The spokesman also said that there was no opposition for BJP in this election.

“We have the capacity to field candidates in all 40 constituencies. But since we have an alliance with the MGP we will fight the elections jointly,” he said.

MAPUSA: Slamming the Congress for trying to find faults with the BJP in its “chargesheet”, North Goa BJP spokesman, Anand Halarnkar said for the last so many years of its rule Congress did nothing except corruption in Goa.

“The Congress has no dare to face the people. It has run out of ideas and issues and that is why they are come out with false charges,” Halarnkar said addressing a news conference in its North Goa office in Mapusa.

Referring to the uneasiness among some of the Congress legislators, he said the Congress cannot keep its own house in order.

“Only two of their MLAs were present while releasing the so-called chargesheet. How can Congress point fingers against others when they cannot control their own flock,” he asked.

He said the MLAs of Congress were fed up with the functioning of the party and were making moves of joining other parties.

The North Goa spokesman said BJP had completed 90 percent of the promises it made in the 2012 manifesto and the remaining 10 percent would be completed within the next four months before the election.

“The BJP-led Goa government’s Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana is the first health scheme in India and almost 2 lakh people have joined the scheme,” he said.

He said Goa Medical College Hospital has opened a cardiac unit offering super-speciality service to the public having cardiac ailments.

He said the BJP-led government had made no differences between North and South Goa in terms of development.
