As per the data provided by the ADEIs to the State Directorate of Education (DoE), 12 government primary schools have already been shut down and 14 others may be amalgamated with schools in the vicinity for lack of enrolment.
DoE on Tuesday held a meeting of all ADEIs seeking a report on the closure of schools, schools with low enrolment and surplus teachers.
“Already twelve government primary schools have been closed as no students enrolled in these schools. Nonetheless, 14 others have very low enrolment due to which the government may consider the option of amalgamation,” informed an official present at the meeting held at DoE, Porvorim.
Speaking further, he said, “Owing to this closure of schools, 91 teachers may become surplus. Of these, most are from the talukas of Pernem, Bardez and Mormugao. DoE may consider posting them to aided primary schools wherever vacancies exist.”
