MARGAO
The Shadow Council of Margao has demanded that the newly-appointed Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council recover all the outstanding dues from the sopo contractor, along with penalties for the delayed payments
SCM charged that the council has resorted to a mischievous fraud, with a planned intent to defraud the municipal treasury and cause revenue loss to the public exchequer. Citing that even though the sopo contractor was heavily in default of paying the dues as per the agreement signed by the council, a resolution dated March 24, 2022, was passed, approving the Rs 32 lakh waiver.
SCM convener Savio Coutinho stated that as of March 24, 2022, the day when the council approved the huge waiver, the sopo contractor had paid only five instalments out of the 12 monthly instalments payable.
He further said that the sopo contractor did not fulfil the condition as per clause No 3 of the agreement.
Coutinho stated that the council is deliberately causing a delay in furnishing RTI information pertaining to the sopo issue.
