Sub-Divisional Magistrates across Goa are in the process of engaging with the various mandals so as to gather feedback and draw up stringent SOPs for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrated with reverence here.
The Deputy Collectors have been asked to meet with office bearers of the various Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals and submit reports to help the State
government evolve appropriate SOPs as a pre-emptive measure against a possible third wave of Covid-19 infections.
Ganesh Chathurti begins on September 10 and is the most important Hindu festival in Goa and most of the Konkan region.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Saturday that with the Covid pandemic still not conquered, Goans should follow the norms which will be put in place during the festival and avoid crowding which usually happens during the festivities.
“I have already instructed the deputy collectors to get in touch with the ‘sarvajanik’ Ganesh Utsav organisers, carry out consultations and then submit a report. We have to decide the SOPs by taking all people into confidence,” Sawant told journalists in the capital on Saturday.
