Both the VDC and BMC were unable to be constituted in the earlier attempts of the panchayat due to low turnout of villagers.
But, it was a different story this time around, as sufficient turnout was witnessed which allowed the panchayat authorities to name both the committees. At the recent gram sabha, the villagers had demanded that the panchayat should hold a special meeting to elect both the committees and had also urged the panchas to create awareness among their voters so that people turn up in numbers.
Outlining the purpose of the meeting, secretary Ashish Naik informed that among all the panchayats,
Se Old Goa is the only panchayat in Tiswadi taluka which has still not constituted the VDC. He further pointed out that if this committee is not formed and a village development plan not prepared, then the panchayat would lose out on central grants under the 14th finance.
Later, Naik outlined some of the works which could be proposed under the VDC and a 13-member committee was named.
The BMC was also constituted, which however could accommodate only six persons as mandated.
Secretary Naik informed that the panchayat would write to the higher authorities to hold an awareness programme for the committee members, where all the details would be provided.
Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar, Panchas Vishwas Kuttikar, Pradnya Fadte and Megasham Parvatkar were present for the meeting.
