Seafarers condemn Pauskar’s statement

MARGAO
The Goan Seamen Association of India has condemned the atrocious and shocking statement made by PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar that the seafarers’ community should not teach him how to protect the environment.

GSAI President Frank Viegas said basic safety and environmental protection is the minimum basic training every seafarer possesses and its implementation is also carried out in practice whether onboard or ashore.

He said the minister should understand that seafarers are considered essential workers in these trying times working hard on the frontline to ensure trade does not suffer.

“Seafarers are mostly engaged onboard for a period of 3-9 months and their contribution goes a long way in development of the state. Pauskar shouldn’t be making statements when the seafarers have not made any baseless allegation against him.”
