Electoral rolls and delimitation process underway for North and South Goa constituencies

Gearing up for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, due in December, the State Election Commission has appointed Deputy Collectors and Mamlatdars as the Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers for the polls. The term of the existing ZPs is set to end in the first week of January 2026.
The SEC has issued a notification appointing Deputy Collectors and Mamlatdars as ROs and AROs of the ZP constituencies within their taluka jurisdiction.
The Commission has already initiated a process of dividing the area within the jurisdiction of North Goa ZP and South Goa ZP into 25 single-member constituencies, respectively, for the purpose of ensuring general elections.
The District Collectors have been appointed as Electoral Registration Officers, while the Mamlatdars are set to assist the delimitation process.
The ERO/ARO has to utilise the Electoral Roll of the Goa Legislative Assembly currently in force as on January 1, 2025 (as the qualifying date), and published on January 6, 2025, and the list of addition, deletion and correction carried out during continuous updation with respect to July 1, 2025, to divide the ZP areas into territorial constituencies.
St Lawrence Agassaim panch disqualified
PANAJI: The SEC has disqualified a panch member of St Lawrence Agassaim village panchayat, Emie Leonora Fernandes, for alleged misappropriation of panchayat funds.
A complaint was filed by former panch member Hilary Pereira in October last year, alleging that Fernandes misused panchayat funds to her advantage.
The SEC noted that Fernandes, while working as Sarpanch, was involved in the misappropriation of funds. She issued cheque payments to ten panch members and to herself for the work of desilting drains and bush cutting carried out by the panchayat.
