SEC to undertake special voters drive for youngsters

the goan I networkrPANAJIrrAnnouncing this, Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said that teams of the Election Commission’s Officers will fan out to colleges and other higher educational institutions and also to booths to facilitate the changes. r“The month of July has been targeted by the Election Commission of India to enroll all the ‘left out voters.’ So we are going to start a proper campaign to reach out to the voters particularly those who are in the age group of 18-21 to enroll them,” Kunal said. rThe aim, Kunal said, was Goa should become completely saturated in terms of voters and no new voters. The new season has started and college schools have opened and those who have newly become eligible to vote. rAll those who have turned 18 as on January 1, this year are eligible to be enrolled on the voters rolls. r“We are going to have special camps on two days, July 8h and July 22, and on those days we are going to target the educational institutions and through Nehru Yuva Kendra and NSS we are going to target who are not in educational institutions,” Kunal said calling for people to support the drive. rAccording to estimates, there are around 14,000 voters between the ages 18-21 who are eligible to be on the voters’ list but are not and the election commission is targeting them, and also older voters who are not yet on the list. r“That way those who were left out, those who were outside Goa during the previous drive and now they have come to Goa or have enrolled themselves in educational institutions. We are going to cover, our higher educational institutions through our nodal officers campus ambassadors, our both DEO and ERO are going to visit each and every college and also booth, level officers are going to visit their respective booth to ensure that no deserving voter should be left behind,” Kunal said. rBesides this, special camps will be organized on July 8 and July 22 both Sundays for voters to ensure that the names in the voting list are up to date.
