Second International Tiatr Sammelan kicks off today

Kala Niketan Goa, in association with the Directorate of Art & Culture, Ravindra Bhavan Margao and Tiatr Academy of Goa will hold the Second International Tiatr Sammelan at the Pai Tiatrist Hall of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on December 15 from 9.00 am to 5.30 p m.
Addressing the media, Convention Reception Committee Chairman Prince Jacob said the Sammelan is organised to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Femandes, the co-founder of tiatr in 1892.
The theme of the sammelan is "Pai Tiatrist: Vaur Ani Obheas”. Reputed Educational Institutions like the Kala Academi’s college of theatre and of Arts, Goa college of Art, Nirmala Institute of Education. St. Xavier's College Mapusa, Fr. Agnel College Pilar, Carmels College Nuvem, M E S. College Zuarinagar, Rosary College Navelim and others will be collaborating with the Organisers.
The Sammelan is supported by Chris Armand Presentation-UK, The Goan Welfare Association - Doha-Qatar, Kuwait Konkani Kendra, Dalgado Konkani Academy, Wilfred D'Sa Charitable Society, Goenchim Kirnnnam-Pemem, Sant Matevachim Noketram-Azossim.
The sammelan will be inaugurated at the hands of Ramrao Wagh, Principal Kala Academy College of Drama, Damu Naik, Chairman Ravindra Bhavan Margao and Legendry tiatrist Platilda Dias, Diana Fernandes, Cyriaco Dias, and others.
Earlier on Tuesday, rich tributes were paid to Pai Tiatrist, Joao Agostinho Fernandes on his 150th birth anniversary, with Tiatr Academy of Goa president Menino de Bandar saying tiatr has reached the present stage due to the foundation laid by Pai Tiatrist.
Tiatrists including TAG Chairman Menino de Bandar, Mario Menezes, Ravindra Bhavan, Chairman Damu Naik and other assembled at the portrait of Pai Tiatrist to pay their tributes on Tuesday morning. A group of tiatrists led by TAG president Menino de Bandar went to the house of Pai Tiatrist behind the Holy Spirit Church, Margao to cut the birthday cake to mark the occasion.
“We have gathered here to pay our respects to Pai Tiatrist on his 150th birth anniversary. He is the first tiatrist, who had laid the foundation stone to take the tiatr forward. Tiatr is marching forward till date because of the role played by Pai Tiatrist,” he said.
Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Damu Naik said that Konkani tiatr and language will remain forever due to the foundation laid by Pai Tiatrist.
“He had worked in an era where there were hardly any facilities which we enjoy today. We were not even liberated that time. Pai Tiatrist used the platform to raise social issues and to retain Konkani language,” Naik said.
He prayed that the tiatr will continue to play its due role as a platform to focus on social issues and promote Konkani language, promising to provide all help and assistance to the tiatr fraternity.
