For the third year in succession, the Selaulim Dam at Sanguem has been illuminated to commemorate Independence Day.
The illumination was launched by WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar and Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai on Wednesday evening.
The illumination of the Selaulim Dam with the tricolour gives the dam an enchanting look, attracting thousands of visitors to the dam during the period of illumination.
While the Selaulim Dam attracts a large number of tourists and locals during monsoon when the water begins to overflow from the spillway, the special attraction of lighting the dam with the tricolour draws additional crowds to the dam.
Speaking on the occasion, Shirodkar informed that from next year, efforts will be made to make the lighting at the dam a permanent affair.
He also assured further development of the Selaulim dam surroundings in the next few months, including construction of huts for a wellness centre and Kunbi village, amongst other things.
Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai also spoke on the occasion.
