Selling expired packet of chips leads to brawl; police register cross FIRs

Selling an expired packet of chips led to a brawl between a group of locals from Tivim and a shopkeeper on Tuesday noon.

Colvale police have registered cross FIRs and booked a shop owner and his employee and some locals involved in the scuffle.

According to police, a group of Tivim locals purchased a packet of chips from the shop owned by Shivprasad Singh near the Tivim Railway Station.

The quarrel started after the locals discovered that the chips packet sold to them was an expired product.

Police informed that the locals, Shivam Parab and Vignesh Chari along with another four to five persons, assaulted the shop owner and his worker with slaps, fist blows and glass bottles while the shop owner and his employee in retaliation assaulted the locals with a wooden stick (danda).

Both parties suffered injuries.

A case has been registered under section 504, 324 506(ji), 427 r/w 149 IPC against the locals while an FIR has been registered under section 504, 324 / w 34 IPC against the shop owner and his worker.

Further investigation is in progress.
