MARGAO
Another elderly woman from Navelim, on her way to church for early morning mass, has fallen victim to a chain-snatching incident.
Her ordeal did not end there. Social activist Pratima Coutinho told the media that when the victim went to the Margao police station to file a complaint, she was reportedly asked to produce the receipt for the gold chain she had bought back in 2008.
The police registered the offence only after the complainant and Coutinho questioned how one could be expected to produce a receipt for a chain purchased 17 years ago.
This is the second such incident in Navelim within a month. On All Souls’ Day, senior citizen Victoria Gonsalves was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs 2.5 lakh while on her way to the 6.30 am mass at Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim. As she reached near Navelim College, two men on a motorcycle snatched her chain and fled.
The Margao police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case.
