Senior citizens can dial 1090 for police help: CM

Apart from looking after the law and order problem, Goa Police also looks after the welfare and safety of senior citizens in the State, said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Sawant on Monday also said that distressed senior citizens in the State can dial 1090 and police will be at their doorsteps for help.

“If your son and daughter are staying abroad or in another city, you (senior citizen) need not worry, Goa Police is always at your service. Goenche senior citizenak bhivpachi garaz nam (senior citizens need not fear),” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister was addressing a large gathering of senior citizens on the occasion of world senior citizens day in Mapusa.

Continuing, Sawant said Goa Police specially the beat police has been constantly maintaining contact with the senior citizens and organising programmes for them on special days.

“Parents always celebrate birthdays of their children when they are small. But when the parents grow old there is no one to celebrate their birthdays. Goa Police will come to your doorstep to celebrate your birthday,” the CM said.

He said the citizens can always call on 1090 for police help even if they feel lonely at home.

Director General of Police, Jaspal Singh informed that police have registered 6,000 senior citizens in the State with their contact numbers.

“We have registered 6,000 senior citizens with their contact details. Our beat police is at their service and provide them with medicine and material at the time of emergency,” Singh said.

“Goa Police is committed to your welfare and safety. You should never hesitate to call your beat police,” he added.

He said Goa was the safest state for women and Goa Police will continue to make it safe not only for tourists but also to the senior citizens of the State.

The programme consisting of health camp and various entertainment events was organised by the Goa Police under the leadership of Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi and 24X7 Care Foundation.

Several well-known senior citizens, including a school headmistress, doctor, police, etc, were felicitated by the chief minister on the occasion.

IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi, SP North Nidhin Valsan and other police officers were also present for the function.
