MARGAO
A Serbian football coach, who had come down to Goa on Thursday to negotiate with the local football clubs ahead of the football season, has been burgled in the city hotel after he checked in a local hotel in the wee hours of Thursday.
The Serbian national Nicholas has claimed on Thursday that unknown culprits decamped with 1,700 Euros, 400 US dollars, besides Indian currency, which he had exchanged at the airport, from the Margao hotel.
The Serbian national landed at the Margao police station on Thursday noon to lodge his complaint with the police, demanding to have a look at the CCTV footage of the hotel.
He told the police that he and his nephew had checked in at the hotel in the wee hours of Thursday after landing at the Dabolim airport. Nicholas claimed that he woke up at around 10 am only to find the foreign and Indian currency missing from his wallet and suitcase. The luggage was found ransacked and the currency missing, he said, adding that the miscreants seemed to have targeted only the currency as evident by the fact that his laptop, mobile phone and other items were not lifted away.
He suspected that the miscreants have gained entry into the room via the main door, even as he demanded that the police call for the CCTC footage to shed light on the incident, in order to ascertain the people who were behind the daring burglary.
The police had summoned the manager and staff of the hotel for a preliminary inquiry into the incident, even as the victim told the media that the police has called the hotel owner with the CCTV footage to shed light on the burglary.
Nicholas told The Goan over the phone later in the evening that he had come down to Goa to take up football coaching.
