MAPUSA: The Mapusa Block of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has unanimously decided to field a candidate for the Mapusa by-elections. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of serving MLA, Francis D’Souza.
The MGP Mapusa block met at its Mapusa office and decided to shortlist names for the candidature.
“The Mapusa block of Mapusa unanimously resolved to field a candidate in Mapusa. All the members were of the opinion to contest the election for the Mapusa by-poll,” send Vaman Pandit, President of MGP block in Mapusa.
The resolution was proposed by Ramdas Falari one of the senior most member of MGP.
Party sources informed that some leaders had approached the party and expressed their desire to contest from the party symbol.
“We will shortlist at least four names and send it across to the MGP. It’s for the central committee to take the final call on the candidature,” Pandit said.
The block also decided to begin the party’s campaign by visiting some prominent people’s houses every Sunday.
“We have decided to do campaigning on every Sunday for at least one or two hours in every ward of the Mapusa Municipal Council. We will visit the houses of old MGP workers and even the new ones. We will start the campaign from March 3,” the MGP block president said.
He also informed that the party’s Mapusa office will be open for the service of the people
“Senior citizens and others who need help should approach our office at Garden Centre, Mapusa with their difficulties. Our men will visit the houses of people who need help like filling of forms to avail government schemes,” he said.
He said having problem of water shortage or erratic power supply or any other problem should leave a note in the party office and the party aides will try to resolve the problems.
At least 25 members of the MGP Mapusa block were present for the meeting at its office at Garden Centre, Mapusa.
