Seven passenger jetties in State to get makeover

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said approval has been given to develop seven coastal passenger jetties in the State under the Sagarmala scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 60.03 crore.

Stating that a provision of Rs 156.99 crore has been made for the Captain of Ports and River Navigation department, Sawant said the construction of the state-of-art iconic Captain of

Ports Terminal Building is expected to be completed in 2024-25 at a cost of Rs 25.20 crore.

“Under the Sagarmala scheme, approval has been given for seven coastal passenger jetties in Mandovi River, Zuari River, Mapusa River and Cumbharjua Canal at an estimated cost of Rs 60.03 crore,” said Sawant.

He added that 6 Lighthouses and 15 Beacons, will be developed in the State and this includes the upgradation using state-of-the-art GRP technology for Campal’s lighthouse.

The chief minister informed that dredging at the mouth of the Shapora River to facilitate free movement of ships and desilting of the Mhapsa River have been proposed.

“These works will prevent flooding in low-lying areas and facilitate navigation,” said Sawant.

He also stated that the government intends to replace four old ferry boats with new boats in

FY 2024-25.
