With a focus on providing uninterrupted power supply to its consumers, the State government has given a big economic boost to infrastructure creation and upgradation in the sector. A total budget outlay for the sector earmarked is almost Rs 4,000 crore.
The budget has proposed to take up almost Rs 895.98 crore power infrastructure works in the coming financial year 2024-25. The year will also see Rs 778 crore capital works.
The Union Power Ministry has approved State’s detail project report for loss reduction / system strengthening works in power distribution at a cost of Rs.243.43 crore and a grant of Rs.146.06 crore has been sanctioned under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
The Ministry has also approved the proposal worth Rs 467.42 crore for the Smart Metering Works with a total budgetary support (grant) of Rs 96.43 crore.
“Work for about 7.5 lakh pre-paid smart meters sanctioned under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) will be tendered and connections will start in FY 2024-25. We will also tender the ERP work for the power department under this scheme shortly and the system will be implemented in FY 2024-25,” the CM said.
Works worth Rs 291.87 crore, sanctioned by the Centre, are underway under Loss Reduction Works.
Besides, the Power Department is in the process of submitting the DPR of the second phase of RDSS, SCADA and Modernization / upgradation to the Centre. This includes miscellaneous works like new / upgradation of existing substations, transformers, HT and LT lines, Distribution transformer centres, Ring Main units.
