MARGAO
Even as the Margao Municipal Council has failed to plug the overflowing septic tanks of high rise buildings in the city causing nuisance to citizens visiting public offices, the civic body is on a job to obtain details from the Public Works Department on the number of water connections released to the migrant-inhabited locality of the city and the mode of discharge of the waste water generated in the area.

With the issue over the discharge of waste and sewage water into the drains under the High Court radar, the Margao Municipal Council has sought details from the PWD on the number of water connections issued to the Azad Nagar colony area. A letter to this effect has been dashed off to the PWD by the MMC after the petitioner in the High Court has claimed that waste water from the slum area enters into the drains.

The Goan understands that both the toilet blocks located inside the migrant-inhabited locality are connected to the underground sewerage line. The MMC, however, is trying to figure out how and where exactly the waste water generated in the slum area is discharged so that the area is connected to the underground line.

Interestingly, citizens visiting the public offices such as the district Collectorate or the Transport or TCP departments, have been complaining of the nuisance posed by waste and sewage waters from overflowing septic tanks from the buildings adjoining the public offices.

When The Goan drew the attention of the Margao Municipal authorities to the sewage nuisance staring at citizens visiting the public offices, an official shot back saying the underground line in the area is yet to fall in place.

Citizens, however, demand to know why the MMC has been playing the role of a silent spectator, when it ought to have issued directions to get the private owners to empty the septic tanks at regular intervals.
