Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza on Thursday said that laying of the sewerage line was nearing completion and once commissioned will solve the major sanitation problem affecting the residents of Mapusa.
“The Rs 100 crore sewerage network once completed will solve the problem of sewage that is being released in the gutters which are meant only for rainwater and not sewage water,” D’Souza said.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the beautification works of Sateri Devasthan and a toilet in Ward 17 in Mapusa. He also inaugurated a road in Khorlim named after freedom fighter, late Dattaram Baburao Dhuri.
Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson, Sandeep Falari; Deputy Chairperson, Marlene D’Souza; Ward 17 councillor, Rajsingh Rane and others were also present.
Speaking further, D’Souza exhorted the gathering on the need to keep their surroundings clean. He said it was everyone’s duty to ensure cleanliness and honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish for a 'Swacch Bharat'.
He said many people blamed the local legislator and councillors for lack of development in town.
“One must understand that it takes some time to process a development-related file,” D’Souza said.
He then requested the MMC to set up an advisory committee to carryout developmental works in town.
Rajsingh Rane, councillor of Ward 17, informed that the toilet was last renovated around 15 years back and 28 families made use of it.
He also said the beautification of Sateri Devasthan has been taken up at a cost of Rs 6 lakh by MMC.

WRD to construct Rs 82 lakh nullah: Falari
MAPUSA
Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson, Sandeep Falari said many developmental works were in progress in Mapusa, and informed that the Council has even taken up works of cleaning up of nullahs behind the market.
He also said that Water Resources Department had taken up construction of the nullah, estimated to cost Rs 82 lakh in Ward 15 at Ganganagar.
“The 325-metre long nullah will have nine culverts and will be completed within six months,” he said.
He further informed that MMC will also be taking up the work of a garden at Khorlim.
