Upping the ante against the government for shifting the jurisdiction of the National Green Tribunal to bring Goa under the ambit of New Delhi, the State Congress President Shantaram Naik has kept his word and shot off a letter to Union Minister of Environment and Forests Harsh Vardhan demanding that the notification be withdrawn immediately.
"The notification is illogical and malicious considering the distance between Goa and Delhi as compared to the distance between Goa and Pune. Considering the tortuous nature of the notification, I would like to state that the notification amounts to violation of human rights," Naik said in his letter.
On Sunday, Naik had promised to write to the Union Ministry to ask it to withdraw the notification and demanded to know if the State government was consulted or whether the request emanated from Goa through a cabinet decision that was communicated to the central environment ministry.
