Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma was on Monday transferred to Delhi “with immediate effect” in an order issued by the AGMUT cadre controlling authority.

The order also names Parimal Rai, who was serving as advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator, as the new Chief Secretary of Goa. Rai served the Goa government as Secretary for a term in 2013-15 and had a good equation with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

In the order, the MHA says Sharma, a 1988-batch IAS officer, has been transferred to Delhi but it does not mention what his new assignment will be.

Another officer transferred by the same order of the MHA is Manoj Kumar Parida, a 1986-batch officer, who has been shifted from Delhi to Chandigarh as advisor to the Administrator of the Union Territory.

The transfer of Sharma was expected as he had completed his three-year term. It was reportedly delayed in view of the peculiar situation in Goa wherein Parrikar has been ailing and away from office for long intervals.

He is now expected to hand over charge to Rai within the next few days after the latter arrives in the State to take up his new assignment.

Rai, meanwhile, is no stranger to the State and has served as Secretary to the Government holding some of the more important portfolios including Town and Country Planning and the Public Works Department among others.
