PORVORIM
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has stated that a Self-Help Group (SHG) is one such medium to enable women to come together and start a business by availing government schemes.
He was speaking at Paithona in Salvador-do-Mundo after launching new Blooming Mahila Mandal at the programme organised by Porvorim Rising. “Women are the backbone of the family. They not only manage household chores but also take care of the entire family. It is, therefore, essential that women should stand on their own legs and earn for their family.”
“They should be taught to use their skills and generate income, thereby providing support to the family. An SHG is one medium through which women can come together and start business of their own by availing government schemes,” said Khaunte.
Khaunte said there are about 270 SHGs in Porvorim constituency and about 4,500 women are associated with them. “These SHGs have been provided necessary training to venture into business activities. More women should come forward and form their SHGs and earn for their family by taking advantage of schemes formulated by the government,” said Khaunte.
On the occasion, the minister handed over a cheque for Rs 10, 000 to Blooming Mahila Mandal to begun their business activities.
Khaunte also availed the opportunity to distribute seeds and fertilisers to farmers of Paithona.
