A new system with upgraded scientific technology will be brought into use to handle the issue of Sonsodo garbage dumps after the rains. In a crucial decision taken at a high-level committee meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday on the Sonsodo issue, the government also decided to hand over the dumping site to Goa Waste Management Corporation which will start operating it in about 3 to 4 months.
The committee which met after the recent incident of fire at the dump reviewed the situation.
Fomento Green which had been helping the government in managing the dumps has proposed to the Margao Municipal Corporation for its exit from the project. The company had signed an agreement with MMC in 2011.
After the meeting, while speaking to media persons, Sawant said the State government has decided to hand over the site to Goa Waste Management Corporation which will start working on the new systems in next 3 to 4 months.
Sardesai said that the State government was looking at a permanent solution to the issue at the site.
“The Government has done all the possible things. We need help from the people. We will not make them suffer. We are saying sorry for all the sufferings gone through by them. We are asking them to have some patience,” Sardesai said.
