A trawler was destroyed in a fire at Kharewado jetty on Tuesday night.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 8.30 pm and the fire services was alerted of the incident.
Four fire tenders, one from MPT, one from GSL and two from Vasco fire station rushed to the spot to tackle the fire.
Sources said the entire engine and a large portion of the boat were gutted in the fire and the owner faced a loss of about Rs 7 lakh.
When contacted, a source in the Vasco Fire Station said they received a call at about the fire at around 9.05 pm and they immediately rushed to the spot.
“Since the fire was major in nature, we sought assistance from the MPT and GSL. We also sent another fire tender from the Vasco fire station at around 9.15 pm. The fire was later extinguished but the entire engine was gutted in the fire. Though the reason of the fire is unclear, the owner has suffered a loss of around Rs 7 lakh,” said the source.
