CANACONA
An all-women Romtamel was a special attraction at the Canacona Shigmo float parade, which attracted a large crowd at Chaudi on Tuesday evening.
The all-women Romtamel comprised over 120 women drawn from all over Canacona taluka and led by former Canacona Municipal Council chairperson Prasthana Naikgaonkar and teacher Shubhangi B Borkar.
The Shigmo parade was flagged-off by Art and Culture Director Sagun Velip in the presence of Canacona Dy Collector Madhu Narvekar, Canacona Municipal Council Chief Officer Mangaldas Gaonkar, Department of Agriculture Dy Directors Chandrahas Dessai and Nagesh Komarpant, Canacona Shigmotsav-2024 Mandal Working President Babesh Borkar and other committee members.
Politicians and elected representatives are kept away from official involvement in the celebrations, but that did not stop Speaker and Canacona MLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar from enjoying the Shigmo parade in Canacona.
Tawadkar was seen seated in the crowd, enjoying and applauding the various floats, which included Romtamell, Chitraratha, folk-dance and individual senior and junior category fancy dress performances.
