After two months,
DoPcalls for election
of Tivim sarpanch
MAPUSA: The Director of Panchayat has finally called for the election of Tivim sarpanch on Monday.
It took more than two months for the director to schedule the election as the former sarpanch, Vital Vaigankar had resigned on July 5.
In a decision which smacks of bias towards the ruling dispensation in the State, the director of panchayats had been dragging his feet to fix a date to elect a new sarpanch in Tivim even though the former sarpanch had tendered his resignation more than two months back.
The same director promptly announced a date to elect a new sarpanch in Verla-Canca after that sarpanch, Milton Marques was voted out of office on July 19. The date for the election of the Verla-Canca sarpanch was fixed within 10 days on July 29.
For record, the Tivim Panchayat is not with the ruling BJP MLA, Kiran Kandolkar and in the case of Verla-Canca the sarpanch that lost no-trust motion was from the opposition group.
The new sarpanch who was elected on July 29 owes allegiance to Siolim MLA and WRD Minister, Dayanand Mandrekar.
Shivdas Kambli is tipped to be the new sarpanch of Tivim from the group which owes allegiance to former MLA, Nilkant Halarnkar.
In a mutual power-sharing understanding between the panch members, the post of sarpanch is rotated among the members of the ruling group. Tivim Panchayat is a 9-member group.
