SANGUEM
A fire incident was reported in the early morning hours of Sunday in Rivona, Sanguem. A shop housed in an old building premises was completely gutted by the fire.
The timely arrival of the fire brigade from Curchorem and Quepem Fire Station, however, prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining shop. The rooftop of an adjoining shop was partially damaged before the fire team reached the site.
The cause of the loss is reportedly attributed to a short circuit, and the loss due to the fire incident is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh.
Immediately after the fire incident, the shop owner rushed to the site and made all possible attempts to douse the fire. Locals residing nearby also rushed to the site but were unable to bring the fire under control as it had spread to the rooftop made of wooden rafters.
Village Sarpanch Vaishali Gaonkar and Zilla Panchayat Member Suresh Kepekar soon contacted Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai, who dispatched the services of fire personnel from Curchorem and Quepem to extinguish the fire.
It was only after the arrival of the fire services team that the fire was brought under control. However, by that time, the shop was completely damaged. The team managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the other two shops located on either side of the damaged shop.
